Coal Crusher Plants Contribute to Sustainable Maximum Power Generation

Mumbai. Coal crushers have been considered a major contributor to record power generation at all thermal power stations in Maharashtra under the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited. A coal crusher crushes large, hard, and coarse coal into small pieces so that it can be easily ground into fine powder in a coal mill. Larger coal cannot be completely burned, resulting in energy wastage and increased pollution. Finely pulverized coal increases its surface area, which in turn generates more heat.

The coal crushing process is carried out in a coal handling plant (CHP) and involves several stages. Under the able leadership of Mr. Vilas Motghare, Chief Engineer of the Koradi Thermal Power Station, the process of coal fineness is underway at the crusher plant. Everything is being successfully managed under the expert guidance of Mr. Sanjay Marudkar, Director of Operations of the Mahanirmiti Company.

 

According to technicians at the power station, coal often arrives at the thermal power plant via freight trains, where it is dumped into a hopper, which sends the coal for further processing.

 

According to technicians, the coal is first passed through equipment such as roller screens, which separate it into two categories: fine coal: coal that is already small in size and is sent directly to the next stage. Coal with larger pieces is sent to the crusher.

 

In the crusher, coal is crushed by a combination of either impact or compression.

 

Some common crushers used in thermal power plants are: These have multiple rings that rotate with a rotor. When coal falls into the machine, these rings rotate and strike the coal, breaking it apart. This crusher machine acts as hammers that rotate and strike the coal, breaking it apart.

The crushing process reduces the coal size to approximately 20 mm.

During the crushing process, magnetic separation is used to remove any iron fragments or metal that may have become mixed with the coal. This prevents subsequent equipment damage.

After leaving the crusher, the coal is sent to a pulverizer. This is an even more finely ground machine that turns the coal into a very fine powder, known as pulverized coal.

Hot air is also introduced into the pulverizer, which dries the coal.

The pulverized coal is then transported to the boiler using blower fans, where it is burned.

Prior to this, if the boiler is not in immediate use, the crushed coal can be stored in a stockyard via conveyor belts
